What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral therapy is a hands-on gentle approach used to evaluate the whole body, detecting and treating where there might be possible structural, emotional and physiological restrictions. If the body is functioning out of synchrony due to any trauma or disorder, it could potentially cause many different sensory, motor and neurological disabilities.
“A person’s a person no matter how small. “
__ Dr. Seuss
How is CranioSacral performed?
This treatment is best performed with the newborn or child comfortable fully clothed, lying face up, atop a table, seated or while playing in a quite and friendly environment. Most of the time the therapist uses 5 grams of pressure (about the weight of a nickel) when working on different body parts.

|
What is the CranioSacral system?
It is a self-corrective mechanism composed of brain membranes and cerebrospinal fluid, which extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth making up the cranium (head), down to the sacrum, or (tailbone) area.

How many treatments might a child needs?
The number of treatments needed is different from child to child; this depends on how the body responds and the child’s health history and condition. Some parents prefer to provide treatments regularly to keep their bodies healthier or to help alleviate a range of illness, pain and dysfunction. CranioSacral therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other therapies to prevent disease and dysfunction, for example, physical, occupational, music, Holistic Approach to Neurodevelopment Learning Efficiency therapy or any other gentle sort of therapeutic intervention.
A medical discovery that was first introduced more than 50 years ago by the Osteopathic profession.
The craniosacral system is intimately related to, influences and is influenced by the nervous, musculoskeletal, vascular, lymphatic, endocrine and respiratory systems.
How can you get any treatment done using such a light touch?
During CranioSacral Therapy we respect the body’s self-correcting mechanism, so the patient's body to make the correction. We are trained by Doctor John Upledger, who is an Osteopath and his highly trained instructors, whose knowledge and expertise are taught on seminars, such as CST for Pediatrics and Sensory Integration Disorders to assist the natural corrective tendency of the child's body. When you use more than a little force, you may recruit the child's bodily defense against our intrusion. What makes CranioSacral Therapy safe and very useable by non-physicians is that It can be applied cookbook style and still obtain an excellent therapeutic result.

What is the core intent during CranioSacral therapy?
Helping the cranial sacral system, which is a self-corrective mechanism, the therapist facilitates the adaptation ability of this system by:
Creating space between the sutures of the skull; therefore, intracranial membrane system can function with less effort and ultimately we can reduced the restrictions and pressure that intracranial membrane system( meninges ) is causing over the parts of the brain as well as the spinal tube’s transverse rings that wrap the spinal cord.
Helps to release the restrictions around those sensory nerves and sensory organs, such as inner ear, vestibular system, endolymphatic sac located inside inner ear, proprioception, and audition, visual, tactile and kinesthetic sense
Helps to release the compression over some of the cranial nerves, trigeminal, fascial, glossopharyngeal, vestibulocochlear, oculomotor, trochlear, abducens, optic, olfactory, Hypoglossal and vagus.
Helps to release the restrictions of spinal segments and transverse rings wrapping spinal cord’s outer layer ( Dura Matter )of it to have more space in between them
Helps nerve roots to have less pressure from muscle spasm, inter-vertebral discs, connective tissue, fascia alignments, body fluids, efficient communication between brain parts, organs or any of the 22 bones of the head including those structures of the mouth and movement of the organs
As a result, it will be easier for the body’s sensory system to connect more efficiently with the brain’s sensory-motor cortex.

The bone movement is an enabling objective in CranioSacral therapy. If you want the structure to change, then, help change how you make it function. So, respecting the person’s internal forces and energies that provide what is required for the therapeutic corrections. When we use more than a little force, you may recruit the child's bodily defense against our intrusion.
