Principles during the practice of CranioSacral therapy, Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Myofascial release.
Do NOT harm, comes from Latin roots : Primun non nocere
Therapist as a facilitator, not an authority figure, cooperating consciously with the client's inner wisdom and inherent thrust towards Self-realization
Always staying neutral, sensitive, present and melding with the body for the client during the whole session and without assuming or judging the session and its development
Respect for the client's defense or protective mechanisms and systems of coping as deriving from legitimate needs to reduce anxiety and maintain psychological stability
Collaboration with the inevitable, during the session support the transformation and dissipation of the held strong or uncomfortable sensations on the body, and feelings if there is any, the release of emotion(s) from the tissue of the body rather than trying to identify or name it. We are NOT psychoanalysts; we are body-base therapist
Trust in the healing potential of the body, the transformation and transcendence that it can make as a self-corrective mechanism when we listen or observe it consciously and allow the information that comes from the body in any form it is presented to flow into our awareness. Human perception has been trained to function in a selective way not determined by biological factors; the result is the everyday way in which we see the world. The teachings of Don Carlos, Victor Sanchez, pg. 160
Acceptance of the client from the perspective of health and well-being, rather than illness and pathology which needs to be helped, 'fixed' or corrected " The notion of treating people like possibilities rather than fixed structures is a healthy one, I think." Nick Herbert, physicist.
Not trying to fit the individual client into a preconceived pattern
Encouragement of purpose, goal and direction of the therapy and of sessions with the client's active participation when they choose to participate rather than prescribing everything for the client
Helping the client to learn how to deal with issues as they arise from their own knowing part rather than fostering dependence on the therapist
Acceptance of life as an evolutionary journey of development with everyone having a life purpose and challenges to meet in order to fulfill that purpose
Helping the client to integrate the dynamic interplay between the client's bodily sensations and their conscious awareness during the session
Conscious modeling of the client's 'I,' clear awareness, validation of experience and recognition of potential activation of the client's will and the capacity to make choices which offer freedom, and enrich rather than limit life
Supporting the completion of the biological process of the body
Respect for the mysteries of life, for uncertainty, the unexpected and the unknown, for the creativity of confusion and for times of darkness and pain
Reframing of pain, crisis and failure as opportunities for growth and essential parts of the client's life purpose, with potential to serve the client
Holding of a transpersonal context which reframes, illuminates and gives meaning to the client's issues and which offers values, creativity, inspiration, and development of any insight
Evocation of conscious intention: empowering the client and setting goals by shifting focus from presenting problems to their constructive resolution
Assisting the client to gain ground awareness, to connect and stay in touch with their own body during the session for them to listen, feel and receive greater benefits from it
If we give up some of what we think we know in favor of learning a new behavior or belief, perhaps, in embracing the 'unknown' we might seek to unlearn some of our limitations and consciousness restrictions. Dr Richard Bartlett, Matrix Energetics
